MY TAKE:

Kaye Dacus and The Great Exhibition are back with An Honest Heart, book 2 in the historical romance series. If you haven't read book 1, Follow the Heart, then what's wrong with you!? Just kidding. I do recommend it, but the series is written in a way where each book can stand alone if necessary. In fact, I found them rather unique. I realized as I picked it  up, that Caddy's story begins in the the same early time frame that the first book started. In other words, the stories overlap.

In Follow the Heart, Kate travels to England with orders to find a wealthy husband to save her broke family. It was a great story that wrapped up at the opening of the Great Exhibition hosted by Queen Victoria. Many series would find the next book picking up where the last left off in time. Here, we not only get another great romance with Caddy that also culminates at the Great Exhibition - we also get a behind the scenes look at what we didn't get to see happening in Kate's story. BONUS!

Caddy and Kate are both strong, independent women in a time period where that is not highly valued. It's nice to see the strong woman find her true love without simpering and downplaying her intelligence. Especially with some very nice looking gentlemen! (Kaye is very good at descriptions...) Old Maids are a thing of the past. These stories show that true love can be found at any age without giving up your morals or dreams.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Set during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Exhibition of 1851, An Honest Heart is a “sitting-room romance” with the feel of a Regency-era novel but the fashions and technological advances of the mid-Victorian age.

Featuring dual romance stories, the main plot involves seamstress Caddy Bainbridge and the choice she must make between two men: one from the aristocracy, the other from the working class. Award-nominated author Kaye Dacus pinpoints the theme of honesty—both men in this love triangle have deep secrets to hide, and Caddy’s choice will be based on which of them can be honest with her.

Courtship . . . cunning . . . candor. Who possesses an honest heart?
