CFBA: Firewall by DiAnn Mills

Song Stuck on the Brain: Mama He's Crazy by the Judds

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:

Firewall
Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. (July 1, 2014)
by
DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

DiAnn Mills is a master at building suspense and plucking the heartstrings all while keeping it in a perfect whirlwind, ninety or nothing, supercharged balance. Did that make sense? LOL If you're not sure pick up Firewall and you'll see what I mean. It starts with a bang and never stops. I loved it. I especially enjoyed the well timed spiritual comments that struck a chord but didn't weigh down the story. Oh, and Buddy. Just wait until you meet Buddy. He may be my favorite hero second to Agent Grayson Hall.

I loaned this one to my mom and she had it back to me in less than 2 days. She said, "That was intense! Do you have any other books by her?" Oh yeah, you bet I do! :) Neither of us can wait for more from DiAnn Mills. Don't miss out on the action, check out Firewall A.S.A.P.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

After a whirlwind romance, Taryn Young is preparing to board a plane at Houston International Airport, bound for a dream honeymoon, when a bomb decimates the terminal. Injured but still alive, she awakens to discover her husband is missing and they’re both considered prime suspects in the attack. Further, the FBI is convinced her husband isn’t who he appears to be.

Agent Grayson Hall’s number-one priority is to catch those responsible for the day’s act of terror. All evidence is pointing to Taryn and her new husband. But his instinct tells him her pleas of innocence are genuine. Is her naiveté just for show, or could she truly be another victim of a master scheme, possibly linked to the software she recently developed for her company?

With both their lives and reputations on the line, and the media outcry for justice increasing with each passing minute, Taryn and Grayson have no choice but to trust one another . . . and pray they can uncover the truth before they become two more casualties.

CFBA: The Survivor by DiAnn Mills

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:

The Survivor
Zondervan (March 5, 2013)

by

DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

Kariss and Tigo are back with another cold case and this one is even more nail biting than the first. Kariss should have learned her lesson when she nearly died researching her last book with the FBI, but that drive to that pushes her to find the truth just can't be ignored. Much to Tigo's frustration. Not that he should complain too much when he has so much of the same drive reflected in himself. But, as Tigo would say, he was trained to handle this...

DiAnn Mills has done a fantastic job once again of bringing a real cold case to life and fictionalizing it just as Kariss does in The Survivor. The story is gritty, hold-your-breath suspense. (The fact that one of my best friends is named Amy Garrett made it all the more unsettling.) Just when you think you might know how these cases tie together, you're thrown for another loop. Perfect. Just the way it should be.

For those who read the first book, The Chase, you will remember that Tigo and Kariss's relationship was left on a rocky note. Be prepared to ride a rollercoaster of emotion with them as they find their path together - or will it be apart? That will depend on Tigo and his relationship with God. There is a great scene here, but I don't want to give anything away, so you'll just have to read it for yourself. :)

I don't think I could praise this book strongly enough, in fact I may have enjoyed it even more than The Chase and that one had me sold hands down.

You can read my review of The Chase HERE.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Kariss meets Dr. Amy Garrett, who survived a brutal childhood attack in which the assailant was never found. Now Dr. Garrett wants her story written in a novel. Kariss wishes she could seek the advice of Special Agent Tigo Harris, but she broke off the relationship a few months prior and seeing him again would be too painful. She interviews Amy and conducts her own research, stepping unaware into a viper's pit of danger. Tigo misses Kariss and wants her back, but he understands why she broke off their relationship. Instead, he concentrates on solving a car bombing and bringing the killer to justice. As Kariss's new story attracts an onslaught of danger that she never expected, can Tigo save the woman he loves and find who wants her dead for writing about an unsolved cold-case?

CFBA: The Chase by DiAnn Mills

Song Stuck on the Brain: Over the Rainbow by Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo'ole
This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:
The Chase
Zondervan (March 27, 2012)
by
DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

Other than the fact it took me a while to figure out how to pronounce the main characters names, (Not sure if I did, I just settled on what sounded okay to me and stuck with it. I chose CARE-iss and TEE-go.) I love the book. It was fast paced, the suspense and action were steady and had me holding my breath a few times. I appreciate the author's message to protect our children. I know this cold case was set in Texas, but we had a Precious Doe case in our area that drew the whole city's prayers and attention. Sadly, I'm sure many cities do, and it made it all the more identifiable.

This is the first book in a new series, and I knew that from the begining. My impatient nature wanted the romance angle to have more resolve at the end of the book, but I know I'll be glad there is still more to tantalize and draw me in as the series progresses. I found it hard to put down and I look forward to the next book.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

To the FBI it's a cold case. To Kariss Walker it's a hot idea that could either reshape or ruin her writing career. And it's a burning mission to revisit an event she can never forget. Five years ago, an unidentified little girl was found starved to death in the woods behind a Houston apartment complex. A TV news anchor at the time, Kariss reported on the terrifying case. Today, as a New York Times bestselling author, Kariss intends to turn the unsolved mystery into a suspense novel. Enlisting the help of FBI Special Agent Tigo Harris, Kariss succeeds in getting the case reopened. But the search for the dead girl's missing mother yields a discovery that plunges the partners into a witch's brew of danger. The old crime lives on in more ways than either of them could ever imagine. Will Kariss's pursuit of her dream as a writer carry a deadly price tag? Drawing from a real-life cold case, bestselling novelist DiAnn Mills presents a taut collage of suspense, faith, and romance in The Chase.

CFBA: Attracted to Fire by DiAnn Mills

Song Stuck on the Brain: Someone Like You by Adelle

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:

Attracted to Fire

Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. (October 1, 2011)

by

DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

I've always enjoyed DiAnn Mills novels, but I think Attracted to Fire has just made the top of the list. Agent Ash Zinders may come across as piggish in the begining, but you quickly find his heart and past explain his anti-female agent notions. I love that Meghan isn't afraid to stand up to him, nor is she afraid to let her emotions work with her logic and skill. She's not a cold, stern agent, but she's not a softie either. The romance angle worked very well. The real meat of the story though, is the race to discover who is after the president's daughter. The suspense was tight, the plot well played and just overall a great read. I could tell she'd done her research and I appreciate that kind of detail, it takes talent to know just how much detail to share without boring the reader. DiAnn Mills definitely has talent.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Special Agent Meghan Connors’ dream of one day protecting the president of the United States is about to come true. Only one assignment stands in her way. After the vice president’s rebellious daughter is threatened, Meghan is assigned to her protective detail on a secluded ranch in West Texas. Unfortunately, working with Special Agent in Charge Ash Zinders may be as tough as controlling her charge. Ash has a reputation for being critical and exacting, and he’s also after the same promotion as Meghan. But when the threats escalate and security on the ranch is breached, it becomes clear this isn’t the work of a single suspect—it’s part of a sophisticated plan that reaches deeper and higher than anyone imagined. And only Ash and Meghan can put the pieces together before it’s too late.

Song Stuck on the Brain: I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelley

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:

A Woman Called Sage

Zondervan (April 1, 2010)

by

DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

Sage is one determined lady. The west was made by strong women of every type; maybe even more than it was made by strong men. I love her character, she was inspiring to me. The fact that her surrounding story hooked me so quickly, just made her journey so much better to enjoy. And those opening pages? Wow, from romance to devestation in 3 pages flat.
Who could stop reading after that?

ABOUT THE BOOK:

They took away everything she loved...now, she’s out for revenge.

Sage Morrow had it all: life on a beautiful Colorado ranch, a husband who adored her, and a baby on the way. Until five ruthless gunmen rode up to their ranch and changed her life forever. Now Sage is a bounty hunter bent on retribution.

Accompanied only by her majestic hawk, she travels throughout the Rocky Mountains in search of injustice, determined to stamp it out wherever it’s found. The stakes are raised when two young boys are kidnapped and Sage is forced to work with Marshall Parker Timmons to rescue them. But Sage may ultimately get more than she bargained for.

In this exciting historical romance set in the late 1800s, murder, intrigue, kidnapping, and questions of faith will keep you in suspense until the final pages.

CFBA: Sworn To Protect by DiAnn Mills

Song Stuck on the Brain: Hallelujah by Jason Castro.

His album is finally out and it's great. Definitely worth checking out.

This week, the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance is introducing:

Sworn To Protect
Tyndale House (April 2010)

by
DiAnn Mills

MY TAKE:

DiAnn Mills created some very compelling characters in this book. Danika is a woman faced with more challenges than most can bare. Her brother-in-law is in the same boat. So how do they each deal with the same tragedies? In totally different ways. DiAnn has shown how finding God again can help you deal with anything, no matter the fire you walk through.

The suspense is just as compelling. You can't stop turning the pages, you have to know who did it and why and who's involved... Between the suspense, the budding romance, the betrayal and the gift of grace - who wouldn't be captivated by Sworn to Protect?

My only complaint? I didn't realize this is book 2 in a series. I'd loved to have started at the begining first. SO, find Breach of Trust and read it too. It didn't seem like I missed anything, it's possible that the books don't overlap enough to make a difference. But I still prefer to read them in order. Call it a pet peeve. Go check out both and tell me what you think.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Border Patrol Agent Danika Morales sends illegal immigrants back to Mexico; a job she's paid dearly for. Her husband, Toby, was murdered two years ago trying to help and his murder's never been solved. Now a string of attacks and arrests leads her to believe that someone from McAllen profits from sneaking undocumented immigrants into the country and somehow this illegal activity is tied to her husband, Toby's death.
